Coffee, Code, and Career Goals: My Next Chapter in Marketing Analytics

Coffee, Code, and Career Goals: My Next Chapter in Marketing Analytics

When I graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing, I knew I wanted to build a career that combined creativity, information, and purpose. Three years later, that idea has taken me in a new direction— toward marketing analytics.

Clarity Behind the Counter

Today, I work as a barista. A role that, at first glance, might seem far removed from marketing analytics. But this role has given me daily opportunity to strengthen the skills that marketers rely on: communication, attention to detail, problem solving, and understanding customer behavior in real time.

I observe patterns every day. What kind of items people buy and at what times, how they respond to certain experiences, and what brings them back for more. It has become my own personal experiment for understanding human connection and consumer insight.

I have stayed committed to my professional goals, actively pursuing certification in Google Analytics and web development. My studies have helped me sharpen my technical skills and build a foundation to pivot into a data-driven marketing role.

I’m drawn toward marketing analytics for its power to uncover patterns that inform smarter, more ethical, and more effective marketing decisions. Data doesn’t just reveal what’s working, it tells a story. A story about people, about their needs, and their experiences.

Learning web development has also deepened my understanding of how users interact with websites, from clicks to conversions, and how design choices shape results.

Blending Tech, Data, and Purpose

As I continue learning, I’ve become increasingly interested in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Two fields shaping the future of data-driven marketing. AI because of its ability to personalize experiences and streamline the decision-making process. Cybersecurity reminds us that trust and transparency are essential foundations of any digital strategy. The next generation of marketers will need to balance both innovation and responsibility, ensuring that technology serves people— not the other way around.

I want to work with nonprofits and mission-driven organizations, using data and technology to help people and strengthen communities.

Next Steps Forward

As of now, I am focused on completing my certifications, refining my analytics and web development skills, and sharing what I learn through this blog. I want to transition into an entry-level marketing analyst role, where I can apply my skills in data interpretation, problem solving, and digital strategy to real-world problems.

Long term, I hope to grow into a marketing strategist or marketing analyst lead role. Someone who utilizes creativity, data, and human understanding to make meaningful change.

My career journey has been far from linear, but every step has been meaningful. Every latte and every line of code has brought me closer to this goal. I’m excited to keep learning, growing, and contributing to meaningful work that makes a difference.
